Best wishes for Media Development in 2010
31.12.09
The GFMD sends best wishes for the New Year to all its members and media development organisations working to create and strengthen free, independent and pluralistic media around the globe.
“We have ambitious plans for 2010”, said GFMD director Bettina Peters. “We will launch the first global, searchable google map of media development programmes in the coming months; we will promote transparency in media development through the GFMD code of practice and we are working with our partners to improve research into the effects of media development.”
The GFMD will continue to provide key services to its members, including publishing the quarterly GFMD Insider, advice and tips on project development, lobbying for better recognition of the key role free and independent media play in democratic development.
“With close to 200 members from 80 countries the GFMD established itself in 2009 as the forum for media development organisations”, said Peters. “We are particularly pleased that the majority of our members are from the developing world. The GFMD exists to provide support to small, local media development groups.”
The GFMD aims to organise more regional forums for media development in 2010. Plans are underway to hold the Asia regional forum in April in Jakarta. All GFMD members from the region will be invited to attend.
Media development organisations that want to become involved in the GFMD’s work can join by filling out the on-line application form at http://www.gfmd.info. The work of all GFMD members will be featured on the global google map and media support organisations should not miss the chance to have their work show-cased on the GFMD map.
